My parents read and write every day of their lives. My dad has to write presentations and performance reviews for his business as well as receive and send emails all day for his work. Even though my mom is a stay at home mom, she still spends a lot of her time coordinating through email and substitute teaching, both of which require lots of reading and writing.

Both of my parents use nonfiction in their jobs. My mother works with developmentally disabled adults with mental illnesses, so she encounters new disorders every day. Because of this, she needs to read up on the disorders to know how to best handle them. My father is a computer programmer, so he's also in a job with dynamic expectations. He's constantly learning new computer languages and methods, so he reads nonfiction to understand these.
